Chris was given the name "Xusamdas" during his father’s first potlatch in 1975 when he was initiated into the Hamatsa Secret Society. Chris was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1961. He studied metalworking in high school and silversmithing at Camosun College while working on his undergrad from the University of Victoria. The original artwork on this site range in price from $100 to $4000. Chris Cook was born into the Namgis tribe of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation in Alert Bay, British Columbia in 1971. The change from a large metropolitan area to a rural setting was huge, but for the young artist the fit could not have been better.
