Thus far, episode 6 is my Favorite with episodes 2, 4 & 1 also being favorites. The acting is uniformly terrific. The cinematography is mesmerizing. Amazon Prime Video’s new anthology series Tales from the Loop has the DNA of a stunning “used universe” of sci-fi imagery and small scale personal stories of love, loneliness and loss to create semi-interwoven tales of quiet humanity.
Their origins and purpose are never fully explained (at least not in the screeners made available to the press). The sci-fi series based on the art book by Simon Stålenhag focuses on the people who live in a town above The Loop, a machine built by by a group led by Russ (Jonathan Pryce), that allows the impossible to be possible.
The good: very good acting, gorgeous art-direction/photography/cinematography, and a refreshingly human and slow take on sci-fi.
There are no world-ending apocalypses, no conniving villains after the Loop's power, or even the Loop acting as some omniscient god.
We are presented with an intriguing mystery: did they simply disappear?
