I'm not a science geek, and while I highly enjoy learning new stuff and reading everyone's enthusiastic posts about this aspect of the show being unusually realistic and well done in terms of the VFX, it's not something I would thrive on, so to speak.
The former colony of Earth and presently the homeworld of the scientifically enterprising yet militaristic MCR. Lopez believes the Earth population has gotten too dependent on free air, free water and free drugs.

After arriving the Tachi at Tycho Station, giving the body to Fred Johnson, who found the data module about the attack on the Donnager, decodyfing it and uncovering the Stealth Ships were built on Terra Shipyards. Still not sure if it works as a complete package for me though.First, your impression of Miller is hilariously dead-on.
A lot of issues with other characters, but in the last 10 minutes of episode 4 it really came together like the characters you know and love from the series.
Like many Martians, he has been taught to despise Earth and its natives for their lack of conservation and for their indolence. It follows a disparate band of antiheroes – United Nations Security Council member Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), police detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), ship's officer James Holden (Steven Strait) and his crew – as they unwittingly unravel and place themselves at the center of a conspiracy which threatens the system's fragile state of Cold War.
There is a shit-monsoon rapidly approaching, and nobody even knows about umbrellas.Lopez is the pill guy, yeah. The marine who got Holden n' co to the Lopez in the show is also a confusing character. Book Lopez and Show Lopez are very different. Later, he was in charge of helping the former Canterbury crew members escape the destruction of the Donnager in the Tachi. Hopefully episode 5 will do better for you and the show.I kinda think they're trying to show that Jim is a bit of a shithead.Because if you read the books, he's kind of a self-righteous shithead. Lopez is unable to hide his contempt for the Earthers but he feels Holden is not a bad person and they perhaps share some values (when the Donnager captain talks about how you sometimes have to kill even though the pirates might not all be bad people, the camera briefly turns to Lopez showing a subtle reaction on his face, clearly it's something he feels uncomfortable about, and he probably remembers what Holden said during the interrogation about having refused to shoot the smugglers' ship down because that would mean killing people). See all photos. They also have a main character who is doing a detective thing instead of a scifi thing (but they use him super well to introduce the culture of the belt). They've changed quite a few things in the show (at least in the first 3 episodes) about Holden and crew and how they act with each other.

The face details, the way they take time to show, not tell, the way they play with what the viewer knows vs. what Lopez picks up.And Lopez, he's got such a presence, I mean, talk about a competent character portrayed by a competent actor.

Thanks for the brief peek into his backstory, I think it's very important for the viewers to understand the stylization is Sure, I mean I'm not disgusted or bored or anything, and I'm not one to jump from one show to another in an endless search for entertainment. My reading (which could be faulty) is this:meta perspective - he's there to provide the Martian view on things, outline the essence of the Mars/Earth antagonism (very important to non book readers and very well explained in just a few incredibly well delivered words), but also to give the Martians a human face, complete with believable motivations and a soft side even (I say mission accomplished)character perspective - the Martian crew is obviously very frustrated by the events, they are in a defensive mode and Lopez clearly let his emotions get the better of him, it's almost as if he opens up to Holden (of all people, who perhaps appropriately reacts with a wtf face, but I still dislike him for that) and then realizes he's gone too far (with that strange gulp he does just before the marine announces "incoming torpedoes in PDC range").
