IFOAM – Organics International is a non-profit organisation with headquarters in Bonn, Germany. The vision is that the Family of Standards will contain all organic standards and regulations equivalent to the COROS. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects.

Our world’s food and farming systems currently face multiple challenges ranging from increasing hunger, climate change, and biodiversity loss to farmers and food workers not earning a decent income. For many organic farmers, particularly in developing countries and emerging organic markets, third party certification is often difficult to access. IFOAM, the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, is an international membership body set up to promote organic food and to develop the integrity of organic production around the world. Founded in 1972 as the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) a membership organisation to represent the global organic movement promoting and lobbying for wider adoption of organic production, it remains true to that mission today. IFOAM defines organic agriculture as ―a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. Participatory Guarantee Systems represent an alternative to third party certification, especially adapted to local markets and short supply chains. The organization now directs special focus on the promotion of two new concepts: The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM - Organics International) is the worldwide umbrella organization for the organic agriculture movement, which represents close to 800 affiliates in 117 countries.
