I was amazed at Healey's ability to channel this faulty mental decline so expertly.

This novel is quite creative and an unusual mix of several genres, since while the mystery is the lead genre, you also can find humor, romance, drama, even horror, maybe on this last one, not as you can expected but certainly it has elements truly horrific and creepy. It's definitely a thought provoking book, I wouldn't call it riveting or suspenseful, you can pretty much figure it all out pretty soon but having a story narrated by a character suffering from dementia or alzhiemers gives it an air of sadness, tragedy almost. Directed by Aisling Walsh. This book was suggested to me by one of my colleagues and I have to say it's an engaging and mysterious read. A woman affected by dementia struggles to solve the disappearance of her friend. You can truly feel the frustration Maud has at not being understood or listened to, at trying to to hold onto a thread of thought as it flutters away, as she tries to piece together what she knows, from only badly written notes in her pocket. It's a book worthy of your time but, if you are going to get something out of it, don't expect it to be a pretty journey. Behind Her Eyes: A Suspenseful Psychological Thriller This story really made me think about that.

'Elizabeth is Missing' is written with compassion and humour, as well as real sympathy for the main character Maud, showing how past and present can be blended, and that those with a better long term than short term memory can have a quality of life within their own memories.

I might even send a copy to each of my sisters.

Part mystery, part meditation on memory, part Dickensian revelation of how apparent charity may hurt its recipients, this is altogether brilliant.

Your friend’s son, a nasty, grasping type, seems to have taken over. This is a humanity centered, psychological insight into living with something like dementia, it makes you think about old age and cognitive decline, it makes you sad and it gives you just a little insight into those around us living with that level of confusion, panic, frustration and loss.
