Makes you appreciate what you have. It took me a long time to watch this movie, the sad face on the front kept me from watching it, you start things with Children, Depression, etc and you get a sense it is going to be one of those movies. I would have liked to see more of the dark humor in the movie. It lacks the author's black humour and perhaps overdoes the alleged wanking. So many people in our country think that they are suffering because they can't afford a cell phone, high def TV or any number of modern conveniences and think that somebody else should provide these things for them. 1999 drama film based on the memoir of the same name by Frank McCourt. Angela struggles to feed her growing family of sons, while Malachy spends his wages on alcohol. So, very sad but top rated because it demonstrates how 'poor' really meant 'poor'.

After seeing the movie again and reading the book again I watched several of the interviews with the author. Too bad I'd already wasted almost 2 hours on it. Brings back memories. I love both equally. With love and support from his mother he makes an inspiring journey to move away from the poverty of his childhood and reach the land that is in his dreams: America. Well worth watching. I would have liked to see more of the dark humor in the movie. If on occasions you are not happy with your life and feel sorry for yourself STOP and watch this film, this film shows you really what it means to be poor and desperate.
