What Abrahamson gets so right is the tricky blend of quite remarkable comedy - mining an air both farcical and of the bleakly gallows variety - with a wider social critique. Set in the fictional Dublin suburb of Barrytown, Bimbo is a baker who loses his job after being made redundant. A tragicomedy set in the world of gas stations in rural Ireland, where over-diligent employee of the garage searches for intimacy during the course of a life-changing summer. Adam is the taller and slightly smarter of the two while Paul is his sidekick. During their search, they encounter various unsavoury characters and make some futile attempts at petty theft. Sometimes (though so extremely rarely that its almost mythical that it may ever happen once in your life and if twice you count yourself blessed beyond all that is holy) you run across a movie that you'd never heard of and upon watching it unfold before your (there's a word I'd like to quote here from the movie that would be most appropriate but I can't cause it would take a letter before i before g and five stars and an apostrophe to tentatively test IMDb's family friendly policy so I'll just go on instead) eyes you find yourself not quite believin' what you're seein' and then when you realize it's getting' going' and buildin' and buildin' and then, O.M.G. The film is a stylised, downbeat comedy, following the pair through a single day, which, like every other, is devoted to scrounging and robbing money to buy heroin.
